Charging Your Tarot Cards on the Solar Eclipse
& Wishing on a New Moon
There are various ways to charge a Tarot deck but many readers favour placing their cards on an indoor windowsill in the moonlight for an additional energy boost.
Whether you’re seasoning a new deck or recharging an existing one, we can utilise the powerful energy combination of an Eclipse when the three celestial bodies of Earth, Moon, and Sun, are in perfect alignment. A Solar Eclipse only occurs during a New Moon, when the Moon passes between the Earth and Sun, whilst a Lunar Eclipse takes place with a Full Moon and the Earth blocks the reflection of the Sun. The New Moon is a growing Moon, which makes it a good time for new beginnings and initiating things, whilst the Full Moon brings culmination. Eclipses amplify the usual energy so it’s like a turbo-charged Moon! As you can see, it’s a great time to harness all the energy available on these special dates. Some readers like to stack their cards back into numerical and suit order, although you don’t have to do this so follow your preference and what feels right for you; personally I like to separate and shuffle my deck beforehand. If you use a crystal alongside your cards you can place it on top of the deck too, so they’ll be happily zinging along together, drinking in the cosmic rays. I tend to leave my working decks on the windowsill in time for the start of the Eclipse until the next day. You can find out the exact start and end times of all the Solar and Lunar Eclipses in your corner of the world by visiting this link on timeanddate.com. You can recharge your deck on a New or Full Moon whenever you feel the need to do so; sometimes you sense that your cards feel a little ‘tired,’ or just as a boost to fill them with positive energy from the Sun or Moon… or both, whichever you prefer. I don’t tend to do so very often but as always, there are no rules. Wishing on a New Moon
If you’ve been with me for a while you’ll already know I like to follow Moon phases and I’ve shared this traditional ritual in my newsletter previously, although some years ago now – so if you missed it, here it is again. This little ritual can be done on the first night of the New Moon but a Solar Eclipse can add some extra oomph!
